Malaria and dengue fever occur frequently in Palawan, Philippines

The island of Palawan has registered a total of 342 cases of malaria so far this year, but also almost three times the number of dengue fever cases. These diseases are transmitted by two different types of mosquitoes.

Travellers to any region where malaria and/or dengue fever transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
