Learn moreSalmonella Infections in British Tourists in Cuba
At least 60 British tourists visiting Cuba have been treated for salmonella bacteria infections with intravenous antibiotics. The majority of the patients stayed at the Hotel Playa Pesquero in the province of Holguín.
Advice
Infections with salmonella bacteria can cause a gastrointestinal illness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps) that can be mild and self-limiting to severe. Most people recover within 4 to 7 days without any special treatment other than fluids to prevent dehydration. Travellers can reduce the risk of acquiring salmonella infections by following food and water precautions.
