Learn moreAnother Legionnaires' Disease outbreak in New York City, USA
Seven people have been hospitalized with Legionnaires’ Disease in a new outbreak of this infection in the Bronx. An investigation into the cause is underway. There have been no deaths so far.
Advice
Legionnaires’ disease spreads through inhaling the mist of water contaminated with legionella bacteria. It can usually be traced to warm water sources such as cooling towers, hot water tanks, whirlpool spas, hot tubs, humidifiers, and condensers in large air conditioning systems. While the risk for the general traveller is very low, persons who have visited this area and who develop respiratory symptoms should seek medical care at once.
