Ban on public drinking in Estonia

The Estonian Parliament voted to amend a law enforcement act which will prohibit drinking alcohol in public. Only six months ago, Parliament passed a law permitting public drinking.

Travellers should be aware that alcoholic beverages can be consumed only in a place where the local government allows the sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the spot. This includes public events, restaurants, performing arts institutions, etc. Those who are drinking will not be allowed to consume alcohol in a way that disturbs others.

An absolute ban remains on the consumption of alcohol in certain places, such as around childcare centres and playgrounds, on public transportation, etc.
