Mexico

  • Jalisco - 560 cases; dengue haemorrhagic fever 60 cases; Most affected municipalities: Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tlaquepaque, Magdalena, Zapopan
  • Morelos - 5,016 cases; “Some” deaths
  • Oaxaca - in 2012, 467 cases; dengue haemorrhagic fever 134 cases; Municipalities most affected: San Pedro Tututepec, San Pedro Mixtepec, Santa Maria Colotepec, Santa Maria Huatulco, Pinotepa Nacional

Costa Rica - in 2012, at least 26,808 cases

Honduras - national data - as of January 7th, 15,419 cases; Increasing trend in most localities

Barbados - 391 cases; Declining trend

Dominican Republic - national data - in 2012, 9,191 cases; 68 deaths

Puerto Rico - in 2012, 17,735 cases; dengue haemorrhagic fever 25 cases; 6 deaths; Decreasing trend

Bolivia:

  • National - as of Jan. 11th, 2,494 cases; Most affected municipalities in Beni department: Trinidad, Guayaramerin, Riberalta

Brazil:

  • Mato Grosso do (Campo Grande) - in first 10 days of January, 3,456 cases; Increasing trend

Ecuador - national data - in 2012, 16,769 cases; dengue haemorrhagic fever 290 cases; 23 deaths 23; Localities most affected: Manabi, Guayas

Paraguay - as of Jan 12th, 1,658 cases; 5 deaths; most affected departments: Central, Asunción, Presidente Hayes; Increasing tren

Peru:

  • National - in 2012, 29,240 cases; 38 deaths

Venezuela

  • Anzoategui State - as of Jan 9th, 15 cases

*Note: Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
