Civil Unrest in Chile - New Information

The Chilean government has announced a curfew in areas of Santiago and Chacabuco and the neighbourhoods of Puente Alto and San Bernardo, between 22:00 Saturday 19 October and 0700 Sunday 20 October. Weekend protests are reported in other cities, Valparaiso, Viña del Mar, Temuco, La Serena, Antofagasta, and Concepcion. The military has been deployed in the capital to help contain the protests. There is a heavy military presence in the center of Santiago.

The president, Sebastian Pinera, announced a reversal of the hike in fares for public transportation in an attempt to deescalate the tensions that led to the protests.

Avoid all areas of protests due to the risk of violence. Observe the curfew, and follow the advice and directives of the authorities.
