Dengue fever cases and deaths continue to be widespread in multiple countries

Dengue fever outbreaks, cases and/or deaths have been reported from the following countries:

Brazil (Alagoas; Rio de Janeiro City; Rio de Janeiro State; Sinop, Mato Grosso State; Tres Lagoas in Mato Grosso do Sul State; Mato Grosso do Sul State; Rio Branco in Acre State; Ceara State; Itabuna in Bahia State; Palmas in Tocantins State)

Paraguay
Bolivia
Peru (Junin Region)
Guatemala (Coatepeque in Quetzaltenango Department)
Mexico (Merida in Yucatan state)
Philippines (Southern Mindanao)
Fiji (Western division)
Australia (Cairns in Queensland State)

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
