Cases*, deaths and outbreaks due to dengue fever have been reported in the following countries
Mexico:
- National - 1061 cases; 355 cases dengue haemorrhagic fever; most affected states include Guerrero, Veracruz, Michoacan, Yucatan, Jalisco and Quintana Roo
El Salvador: 377 cases
Honduras - Olancho Department - 50 cases; Increasing trend
Dominican Republic - 1,323 cases; 3 deaths
Puerto Rico - 10,495 cases; Increasing trend
Bolivia:
- Cochabamba - 135 cases
- Santa Cruz - 132 cases; 1 death; Increasing trend
Brazil: 66,151 cases; most affected states with over 10,000 cases include Goias and Minas Gerais; other affected areas include Brazilia and Paraná
Ecuador - 722 cases; 2 deaths
Paraguay - 47,656 cases; 38 deaths
Venezuela:
- Carabobo - 38 cases; Increasing trend
- Lara - 19-25 cases reported every day
There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
