Dengue cases, deaths and outbreaks have been reported from the following countries in the Americas:
Mexico (Iguala, Guerrero State, Jalisco, Morelos, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tamaulipas, Veracruz)
Costa Rica
Nicaragua
El Salvador
Honduras (Choluteca Department)
Panama (Panama City)
Jamaica
Colombia (Huila Department)
Venezuela (Puerto la Cruz, Anzoategui State, Tachira, Vargas States)
Bolivia
Brazil (Nova Mutum, Mato Grosso State; Aracaju, Sergippe State)
Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
