Nationwide Demonstrations in Malawi, August 6, 2019

Nationwide demonstrations are planned for Tuesday, August 6, calling for the resignation of the Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson due to alleged election irregularities. The U.S. Embassy in Malawi reports that demonstrations are expected along Presidential Way toward State House.

Avoid all areas of demonstrations, and avoid travel on August 6th if possible. Violence has occurred during recent protests. Traffic will likely be disrupted in the areas of the protests.
