There are reports that 71,858 people have been treated for malaria since March. A total of 125 deaths have been registered since the onset of the peak season for transmission of the malaria parasite. Many of the cases are in children under the age of five. The most affected districts include Mudzi, Kariba, Mutoko, Mutasa, Kadoma, Mutare city, Rushinga, Makonde, Chimanimani and Mutare.
Travellers to this region should be aware of the high risk of exposure to malaria and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria prophylaxis is recommended.
