Increases in malaria in Palawan, Philippines

Through the end of October, there has been a significant increase in malaria cases in southern parts of the island, specifically in Brooke’s Point, where almost 1,300 infected persons were registered. A total of 5,068 confirmed cases were recorded in Palawan from January 1 to October 31.

The risk of exposure to malaria is high in Palawan. All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
