Four children are among the 15 people who have died from malaria in the department of Chocó this year. A total of 19,000 infected people have been diagnosed with malaria in 17 municipalities. The deaths of the children are blamed on a lack of anti-malaria medications. Brazil and the World Health Organization have donated new supplies of medication.
