Learn moreMunich Security Conference - Germany
On 16-18 February, the annual Munich Security Conference will be held at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. From 06:00 hours (local time) on 16 February to 15:00 hours on 18 February, traffic will be disrupted in the Altstadt area. Over 50 heads of state and 60 foreign ministers will be in attendance. A major security operation will be in place. A security zone has been established including Salvatorstrasse, Salvatorplatz, and the Rosewood Hotel in the north. Other road closures, parking restrictions and security checks will be in place on Promenadeplatz and the security zone.
Exceptions, disturbances, and delays are also likely on bus and tram services. Tram traffic on lines 19, 21 and N19 will be halted. Trains will not stop at the Lenbachplatz, Marienplatz/Theatinerstraße, Nationaltheater and Kammerspiele stops.
The airspace within a 5-5 kilometre radius, roughly from the Olympic Park to the Perlacher Forst, will be restricted, especially to drones.
Several related demonstrations have also been planned in the area. On 17 February, from 12:30 hours, the Anti-Siko alliance will march from Stachus via Maximilians and Odeonsplatz to Marienplatz. Another group of demonstrators plan to form a human chain between Karls- and Marienplatz. The “Munich Stands Up” alliance will hold a demonstration from Königsplatz through the Maxvorstadt. A rally will also be held at Odeonsplatz.
Advice
Allow extra time for road travel due to possible traffic congestion. Plan alternate routes in the event of road closures. Increased police deployment is likely.
Minimize safety risks by being vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Familiarize yourself with exits and exit routes through crowds, and avoid the middle of large crowds.
