Number of recent drownings on Phuket's beaches (Thailand)

A young Burmese construction worker on a religious holiday with friends at Karon beach became the 3rd person to drown on Phuket’s beaches in the past 5 days. Two of the victims friends were rescued when they were swept off their feet in waves whipped by high winds that created dangerous swimming conditions. Red flags were warning swimmers to stay out of the water.
