Outbreak of yellow fever results in many cases in South Omo District, Ethiopia

Ethiopian authorities have confirmed an outbreak of yellow fever involving 105 cases in South Ari, Benatsemay, and Selmago districts of South Omo. No deaths have been reported. A large scale vaccination campaign is underway to control the spread of the disease. Travellers to these areas can reduce the risk of exposure to yellow fever by obtaining a yellow fever vaccination before travelling. In addition, travellers should take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Travellers are reminded that many other countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination upon arrival for all travellers equal to or greater than 9-12 months of age. A list of countries requiring proof of yellow fever vaccination before entering the country may be found at: http://www.who.int/ith/chapters/ith2012en_countrylist.pdf.
