Unrest continues today across Brazil. Brazilian police have fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters in the city of Fortaleza. At least 30,000 rallied ahead of the Confederations Cup game with Mexico. The government warned earlier it would deploy forces to the five cities hosting the Confederations Cup: Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Fortaleza and the capital, Brasilia. Today about 200 people blocked the Anchieta Highway that links Sao Paulo and the port of Santos.
Some reports indicate protesters are gathering in Niteroi, across Guanabara Bay from Rio de Janeiro. Mass demonstrations have been called for Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro on Thursday. In Rio, protesters plan to march to Maracana stadium. Police have stated the protesters will not disrupt the game between Spain and Tahiti.
