Rabies problem in Chennai, India

Health officials have reported that at least 20 people have died of rabies in this city in the last six months. Three persons died in June after being bitten by rabid dogs.

Travellers are reminded that rabies is a common disease found in nearly all parts of the world. Unvaccinated dogs are usually the most common source of rabies which is transmitted to humans through dog bites or scratches. Travellers should exercise caution and avoid contact with all domestic dogs and cats since they may be infected with rabies.
