Report declaring Nepal's trekking region around Mount Annapurna as safe is called into question

A government-commissioned report, carried out following the April and May earthquakes in Nepal, has declared Nepal’s popular trekking region around Mount Annapurna as safe.

However, some tour operators have criticized the report stating that they were not consulted even thought they have specific geographical and practical knowledge of the two regions and that the report is flawed since it is based on only one week’s fieldwork. The president of the Nepal Trekking Agents Association stated that the operators would not send clients to either region on the basis of two recent reports.

Advice

Travellers are encouraged to use only known and reputable tour operators. Some operators will not be sending tourists to the region based on the report’s findings.
