Small mumps outbreak in Toronto, Canada

Health authorities have identified a small outbreak of mumps that has been traced to possible exposure at a restaurant. A total of 9 cases of mumps and 3 suspected cases have been reported. All of the cases have been linked to the Ki Restaurant at 181 Bay Street in the city’s financial district. Eight cases are employees at the restaurant and the ninth case is a contact of one of the employees.

Although the risk to travellers is low, anyone who visited the Ki Restaurant at anytime on or between July 7 and July 18 should be aware of the risk of exposure. Symptoms of mumps may occur up to and including August 12th. Travellers should always maintain their childhood vaccinations (including mumps) up-to-date.
