State of Emergency Declared in Santiago - Chile

On 19 October, following the violent protests affecting transportation in Santiago, the Chilean government announced a state of emergency for Santiago. Also, there will be no service on the Santiago Metro network this weekend.

Advice

An increased police presence is expected across the city, including travel restrictions. A state of emergency allows the government additional powers to restrict citizens’ freedom of movement and their right to assembly. Follow the security advice given by local authorities.
