Four more new cases of typhoid have been reported as of today in Petaling Jaya, bringing the total number of cases nationwide to 56 so far this year. Of this number, 9 cases are still being treated, 5 of whom are hospitalized in Kuala Lumpur, 2 in Selangor and 1 each in Kelantan and Kedah.

Travellers to any area where there are cases of typhoid fever can reduce their risk of exposure by being cautious and avoiding consuming food or water that is contaminated. Vaccination against typhoid fever should be considered, especially if unsafe food or water cannot be avoided.
