Can a resident enter the country?

Hungarian citizens, residents, and their family members are allowed to enter the country. Residents must have a residence permit that is valid longer than 90 days.
Can a foreigner enter the country?

Travellers who are travelling for business, for a cultural or sporting event with a personal invitation issued by the organizer, or passengers with a “D” visa can enter.

Nationals of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia can enter if they have approved accommodations and a negative COVID-19 PCR test issued at most 5 days prior to arrival.

Foreigners can apply for entry under these special circumstances:

Persons who have to present themselves in a court for legal purposes, proven by official documents from a Hungarian court.

Business or work-related entry.

Persons with a medical emergency or appointment and with an official letter from the destination healthcare institution.

Foreign students who are studying in Hungarian universities.

For attending any family events.

Attending any international important sports, culture or religious events.

The entry request has to be submitted electronically at the website of the Hungarian police.
Is transit allowed through the country?

Anyone can transit through Hungary, however, transiting travellers must have proof that they can enter their destination or a neighbouring country in order to reach their destination.
Is a test required on arrival?

Travellers must undergo a medical examination on entry. Foreign nationals with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 infection will not be allowed to enter Hungary.

Nationals of the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test issued within the 5 days prior to arrival.

Travellers who are eligible to enter for cultural or sports events must present two negative COVID-19 PCR test certificates issued at most 5 days prior to arrival and 48 hours apart.
Is quarantine required on arrival?

There is a mandatory 10 day quarantine period. The quarantine duration can be shortened by two negative COVID-19 PCR test certificates issued within 5 days, with 48 hours elapsing between the two tests.
