Update: Violence Amid Nationwide Blockade - Bangladesh

As of 31 October, amid the 3-day national blockade by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, violent conflict broke out between local police and party activists in several areas.

• In Kishoreganj, at least one person was killed and 50 others sustained injuries.

• In Matuail, a cocktail explosion injured at least 3 people.

• In Bogura, vehicles were vandalized and set on fire. At least 6 people were injured in clashes with the rival party.

• In Narayanganj, at least 3 policemen were injured amid clashes with political activists. Tear gas was fired.

• Vehicles were vandalized and torched on major highways across the country.

Further violence can be expected during the blockade.

Minimize safety risks by avoiding large public gatherings and protests, as they may become violent unexpectedly. Road closures are possible. Expect and prepare for public transport disruptions. Plan alternate routes/modes of transport to avoid inconvenience.
