On 14 December, Finnish authorities announced the closure of the Niirala and Vaalimaa border crossings with Russia. The crossings were briefly opened on 14 December and were set to remain open until 14 January. The two crossings will now be closed from 20:00 hours (local time) on 15 December. The border points were closed to curb the surge in illegal crossings. All land border crossings to Russia will remain closed until January 14, 2024.
