Alaska Airlines has announced the cancellation of 170 flights scheduled for 7 January and 60 flights scheduled for 8 January after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered the grounding of 171 Boeing 737 MAX 9 airplanes to run inspections. The airline has warned of further cancellations through the first half of the week. The FAA issued the order after an eight-week-old Alaska Airlines jet was forced to make an emergency landing with a gap in the fuselage on 5 January.
Advice
Check with your travel agent or the airline to determine if your travel plans are affected. If impacted by cancellations, know your compensation rights. Reschedule your travel plans or use alternate airlines/modes of transport to minimize inconvenience.
