On 27 August, violence broke out amid clashes between student protesters and security personnel ahead of the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ march to the West Bengal secretariat. The police forces used tear gas on the protesters who broke barricades and resorted to stone-pelting. Student organizations will hold a rally at 14:00 hours (local time) in Nabanna demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister. This follows the alleged rape and murder of a female resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College on 9 August.
Advice
Further violence is possible. Minimize safety risks by being vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Familiarize yourself with exits and exit routes through crowds, and avoid the middle of large crowds. Be ready to react very quickly to any sign of an emergency. Plan for travel disruption.
