Malaria Continues in Urban Areas of Santiago and elsewhere in the Dominican Republic - Update

At least 63 new cases of malaria have been diagnosed in the last 4 weeks, the majority of whom resided in the urban neighbourhood of Santiago West. Nationwide, in the month of September, a total of 294 cases have been reported from the municipalities of La Ciénaga, Hato Nuevo, Caballona, Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste, Las Mercedes and Los Alcarrizos.

All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
