Flooding in Santa Catarina - Brazil

As of 12 October, at least two people were killed as floods hit Santa Catarina after continuous heavy rains since 3 October. 89 municipalities declared a state of emergency. Relief operations are underway in Aurora, Campo Alegre, Campos Novos, Canoinhas, Erval Velho, Forquilhinha, Irineópolis, Laurentino, Mirim Doce, Monte Carlo, Presidente Getúlio, Rio do Oeste, Rio do Sul, Rio Negrinho, São Bento do Sul and Tubarão. Around 12,289 people remain displaced. The most affected region is Vale do Itajaí, particularly the city of Taió. Further rains are likely in Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, and Paraná States.

Avoid non-essential travel to the affected areas since there may be power outages and damage to infrastructure, such as roads, transportation and communication systems. Several roadways in the area are not accessible. Be cautious and consult local meteorological reports wherever available through local media (TV, radio, and local alerts). Follow any other advice from local authorities.
