National Strike and Protests Over Fuel Prices in Harare, Zimbabwe

In Harare, protesters blocked roads and burned tires after the president announced a 150 percent increase in fuel prices. Zimbabwe’s labour union confederation called for a national strike starting today (Jan 14). Diplomats and tourists can buy fuel for a cheaper price at designated gas stations.

Advice

Zimbabwe has been faced with an ongoing economic crisis. Protests, both planned and spontaneous, over fuel hikes could be ongoing. Avoid all areas of demonstrations or protests due to the risk of violence. Be prepared for transportation disruption.
