Powassan Virus in Connecticut, USA

The Department of Public Health has reported four cases of Powassan virus detected during the period 1 January through the end of August this year (2019). Officials have cautioned that the virus can cause severe disease.

Advice

There is no vaccine to prevent or medicine to treat Powassan virus infection. The best way to prevent Powassan virus disease is to prevent tick bites.
