Cameroon: Boko Haram Ambush in Far North Region on 4 December

On 4 December, Boko Haram insurgents attacked and kidnapped 21 people in Mbreche in the Far North region. Four managed to escape, while 17 remain in captivity. The army launched an ongoing search and rescue operation.

Advice

Boko Haram, based in Nigeria, has extended its attacks across borders to Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Other kidnapping and hostage-taking incidents in the Far North, North, Adamawa, East, North West, and South West regions of Cameroon have occurred over the past year. Many countries advise citizens to avoid all travel to these areas due to the high risk of kidnapping, banditry, extreme violence, and terrorism threats.
