Cases*, deaths and outbreaks due to dengue fever have been reported in the following countries

Mexico :

  • Guerrero - 4,136 cases
  • Jalisco - 489 cases; 52 cases dengue haemorrhagic fever
  • Morelos - 2,057 cases; 510 cases dengue haemorrhagic fever; Decreasing trend
  • Tamaulipas - 651 cases; 2 deaths; Decreasing trend
  • Sonora - 400 cases

Nicaragua (national) - 4,971 cases; 2 deaths

Dominican Republic - 8,252 cases; 122 cases dengue haemorrhagic fever; 52 deaths; Increasing trend

Argentina (Villa Elisa, Entre Rios Province) - 25 cases; Increasing trend

Peru :

  • Madre de Dios - 1,850 cases
  • Ucayali - 5,699 cases; 1 case dengue haemorrhagic fever; 11 deaths; Increasing trend

Paraguay (national) - 35,864 cases; 4 cases dengue haemorrhagic fever

*Note: Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
