Chicken livers found to cause salmonella infections in five states

New York Health Department officials have reported 89 cases of Salmonella bacteria-related illness in the state (56 occurred in New York City). Twelve of the cases were hospitalized. A total of 169 cases have been found in the five affected states.

The cases were linked to eating MealMart brand kosher broiled chicken livers (including chopped liver) from the Schreiber Processing Corporation. This product was not cooked even though it was labelled as broiled. Cases of illness have also been identified in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Minnesota.
