Cholera in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Health authorities have hospitalized 18 people with cholera from neighborhoods in the capital city. While more cases are suspected, there have been 2 deaths reported. Nationwide, there have been 750 cases and 14 deaths. The spread of cholera in the Dominican Republic is related to the on-going large scale epidemic of cholera in neighboring Haiti.

Travellers should be aware of the risk of exposure to cholera in the Dominican Republic and take all necessary precautions to avoid consuming unsafe food and water.
