Cholera outbreaks in several African countries

Outbreaks of cholera are being reported by the following countries and localities:

• Democratic Republic of the Congo - Katanga Province, city of Lumbashi
• Ghana - city of Accra
• Kenya - Tana River County; 6 deaths, including 4 children
• Malawi - Central and Northern Regions; several deaths reported

Advice

It is not difficult to minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Travellers to any area where cholera should strictly observe all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
