Côte d'Ivoire: Avoid Eviction Drive Near Felix Houphouet Boigny International Airport in Abidjan

The government has issued a notice for demolition of the residences located within 4 Km from the fence of the Felix Houphouet Boigny International Airport (ABJ) and the associated eviction is expected to start on the morning of 15 January.

Related protests against the demolition order were reported on 14 January. The protesters are urging the government to postpone the demolition drive. The demolition order has been issued following the discovery of a dead body of a student in the landing gear compartment of an Air France plane which landed at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport from Abidjan’s ABJ airport on 8 January.

Advice

Further disruptive protests against the eviction, large gatherings around the vicinity of ABJ, and increased security presence are expected. Travellers should take additional time to reach the airport and if possible, avoid gatherings to minimize safety risk and inconvenience.
