Deadly bombing in Jameela market in Baghdad, Iraq

At least 55 people have been killed and 200 others injured when a truck bomb exploded inside the Jameela market in the Shia district of Sadr City, an area targeted by bombings several times this year. IS militants, who consider Shia to be heretics, have claimed responsibility.

Advice

The safety and security situation in all of Iraq is extremely unstable, and most countries advise against all travel to Iraq. If you are in Baghdad, avoid crowded areas, such as markets or mosques, particularly in Shia neighbourhoods. Avoid police stations, military posts, and areas frequented by foreigners. Be aware that secondary bombings sometimes occur to target security and medical workers.
