Cases*, deaths and outbreaks due to dengue fever have been reported in the following countries in Asia:

Thailand:

47,986 cases and 47 deaths nationwide highest numbers in Rayong, Krabi, Chanthaburi, Chachoengsao, and Phangnga Provinces

  • Maha Sarakham Province - 713 cases; 1 death

India:

  • New Delhi - 393 cases; deaths: 1; Increasing trend
  • Chandigarh/Mohali area, Punjab/Haryana States - 187 cases
  • Odisha State - 707 cases; deaths: at least 33. Increasing trend
  • Bangalore, Karnataka State 700 cases; deaths 8; Increasing trend
  • Pune, Maharashtra State - 158 cases; Increasing trend

Indonesia:

  • Jakarta - 169 cases; deaths at least 1; Increasing trend

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

*Note: Due to incomplete reporting, lack of access to health care in some areas, and the fact that many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and be reported to health authorities, there may be many more cases in the community than are reported.
