Dengue fever in Mexico and Central America (update)

Dengue fever cases and outbreaks continue to be reported from the following countries and areas:
Mexico

  • Baja California Sur - 2,024 cases with 78 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. The most affected municipality is La Paz.
  • Sonora - 647 cases with 128 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever. Honduras (national) - during the week ending on November 16th, there were 832 reported cases. New cases appear to be declining.
    Nicaragua (national) - 8,105 cases with 22 deaths.

There may be many more cases of dengue that are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
