Dengue fever in the world - Asia, India, and Pacific

Cases, deaths and outbreaks of dengue fever are being reported by the following countries:

  • Malaysia (Selangor state) - 48,691 cases.
  • Singapore - 212 case in just one week
  • India: Maharashtra - 7,383 cases and 72 deaths; in Mumbai, there have been more than 700 cases with 19 deaths
  • French Polynesia - 2,188 cases with 1 death
  • New Caledonia - 19 cases spread from French Polynesia with 1 local case , 1 case locally acquired

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
