• Araçatuba Region - at least 2 deaths due to dengue fever have been reported.

• Bauru - 1,616 cases reported and 1 death.

• Maringá - 2,207 cases and 2 deaths reported; 1,550 of the cases were detected just last week.

• Aguaí - with 136 confirmed and suspected cases of dengue, an epidemic level has been declared.

There may be many more unreported cases since counting andreporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and manypersons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas wherethe dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to denguefever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
