Dengue fever reports in Mexico (update)

The following states in Mexico have reported cases of dengue fever and dengue haemorrhagic fever:

  • Baja California Sur - the most affected municipalities include San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
  • Guerrero - more than 1,500 cases
  • San Luis Potosi
  • Tabasco - more than 4,500 cases with almost 100 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever and 10 deaths. There may be many unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
