Gas Explosion in Embakasi, Nairobi - Kenya

On 1 February, at around 23:30 hours (local time), an explosion was reported at the Kentainers Company gas plant near the Skyline Estate in the Embakasi area of Nairobi. At least two people were killed and 222 others reported injuries. Over 100 houses were evacuated in Mardi village. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area. An investigation is underway. Significant infrastructural damages were also reported.

Avoid the affected area until relief operations are completed. If travelling in the area, wear facemasks or other respiratory protective equipment to avoid inhalation of smoke or poisonous chemicals. Plan alternate routes in case of road closures.
