General strikes in Bangladesh, May 27, 28, and 29

OnSunday in Bangladesh, country-wide protests brought bomb explosions andvandalism. Today (27 May) the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will stagecountry-wide demonstrations to protest the arrest warrant issued for TariqZia. The dawn to dusk hartal (term forgeneral strike or shut-down of essential services) for May 27 will occur in theareas of Bogra and Sirajgoni. The BNPhas also called for nation-wide protests and demonstrations for today.

ForTuesday, May 28, the BNP has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal for the districtsof Comilla, Laxmipur, Tangail, Joypurhat, and Faridpur.

For Wednesday, May 29, a separate 8-hour hartal has been calledfor Faridpur.

Travellers should be aware of the possible shut-down of allessential services during these times in these areas.
