ISIL take responsibility for the death of Japanese and Italian nationals in Bangladesh

A Japanese man who was involved in an agricultural project was shot and killed in the town of Kaunia today. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the ISIL has claimed responsibility for the attack. The ISIL also claimed responsibility for an attack five days ago on an Italian aid worker who was shot and killed in the Dhaka diplomatic zone.

Advice

In late September, intelligence information indicated the possibility that militants might attack Western interests in Bangladesh. Travellers in Bangladesh should exercise a high level of caution with regard to personal safety and security. Consider avoiding locations frequented by foreigners, such as hotels or restaurants, and avoid events or conferences that westerners may attend. Generally, attacks on foreigners in Bangladesh are rare.
