Large-scale protests in Kashmir Valley

Large anti-India protests and clashes have erupted in the Kashmir Valley today, leaving one person dead and many injured. This civil unrest comes in response to government forces raiding an alleged militant hideout in Tral, in which eight militants were killed, including one prominent rebel commander. Protests have spread to other areas, including Srinagar. Police have responded with tear gas and shot gun pellets.

Authorities have cut off mobile internet service. Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in its entirety and have fought two wars over their claims to the territory.
