Latest on Ebola in 4 West African countries

In Guinea , where the outbreak began, there have been 157 suspected cases of Ebola, of whom 101 have died. The deaths include 8 health care workers who became infected while caring for Ebola patients. Some of the cases have occurred in the capital city Conakry.

In Liberia , there have been 21 clinical cases, with 11 deaths. Deaths were recorded in Lofa County, near Guinea, from where the virus entered the country, Margibi County and Montserrado County in the capital, Monrovia.

In Mali , 4 patients are suspected to have the disease. Two of the patients had travelled from Guinea to seek health care in Sibiribougou in the Koulikoro Region of Mali.

Sierra Leone has reported 2 probable cases in one family. These cases died in Guinea and their bodies were repatriated to Sierra Leone.

The risk to travellers remains very low, and the World Health Organization has NOT recommended any travel restrictions to these countries because of the Ebola outbreak
