Malaria epidemic in Burundi continues

Since the beginning of this year, there have been almost 1,800,000 people infected with malaria. Although the epidemic is nationwide, the most affected provinces are in the northern, central and eastern regions, including Karusi, Gitega, Muyinga, Kirundo, Kayanza, Ngozi, Bubanza, Cankuzo, Cibitoke and Ruyigi.

Advice

All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
