Malaria in Burundi - New Information

Since early November (2019), a total of more than 1,300,000 people were infected with malaria. Of these, 479 died. During the second week in December, 172,186 malaria cases were registered, and 29 out of the 46 health districts of Burundi were experiencing an epidemic of malaria transmission. Over the entire year (2019), a cumulative total of more than 8,500,000 cases and 3,170 deaths were recorded.

Advice

All travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Anti-malaria medication is recommended.
